Honoring Trey Liermann – Why We Gather
Kelvin Eric Trey Liermann III was a vibrant and beloved member of the Maricopa community. Born on May 24, 2007, Trey was a passionate athlete, devoted friend, and deeply loved son, brother, and teammate. He grew up in Maricopa and attended local schools, proudly becoming a freshman at Maricopa High School, where he was active in JROTC and a standout on the football field. Trey loved all sports, especially football, and dreamed of playing in college and beyond. His humor, loyalty, and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Trey passed away on November 22, 2022, at the age of 15. In the wake of his passing, his family and community have worked to keep his memory alive by celebrating his passions and focusing on the things that mattered most to him.
Each year, the Trey Liermann Memorial 7-on-7 & Big Man Competition brings together athletes, families, and supporters to celebrate Trey’s love of football and to continue his legacy in a meaningful way. This event not only raises critical funds to help send local youth to football summer camp—something Trey cherished—but also serves a deeper and more important purpose: to raise awareness about suicide, mental health, and prevention. Through sport and community connection, we aim to honor Trey’s life by encouraging open conversations, strengthening support for young people, and reminding everyone that no one should struggle alone.
